That's the "almost" excluded. There's one film from India, zero from China I recognize, zero from Africa, zero from South America. For all intents and purposes, he only seemed to watch Japanese, European, and American films. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is surprising given who it is.
Yeah, good point. I do wonder though how many directors of his time (and still today) can say they've seen many films from those countries. Even if they did perhaps they wouldn't make their top 100 (even if they should.)

Kurosawa's list is a pretty solid collection of classic U.S. and international films. I don't find anything too unusual on it.
