Thank you Cole - always have admired you as a writer and you are a good friend. On a professional and creative level, looking forward to diving into more of your writing and interviews. All the best and thanks for turning this old dog on to Substack!
Cole, I just joined Medium to finish your Dracula series and I’m thrilled I did. Firstly, because I just went through a similar situation but on a much “lower stakes” level. A indie producer wanted to develop a feature I have with a writing partner and we tried for a year. He blamed us for HIS notes and never liked what we wrote. He constantly said our protagonist wasn’t “likable” and he turned our Romantic Comedy into a tome on grief! Wtf? Your series made me realize no matter what level you’re on, toxic producers who want to reimagine your script in their voice are ubiquitous. Somehow I thought this low-level development producer could not exist with his samples of dialogue and fighting over word usage, at a higher, more professional level! Boy, was I proved incorrect. I just read the whole series aloud to my husband. What we both want now, is a TV show about what you and your wife went through during this time. I’m sure it would make a compelling dramedy! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope when you crack open a beer now, it’s to celebrate and not be alone in the dark staring at your ceiling. 🍺
My new spot for getting 100% of content I can repackage as my own ideas to seem smart at cocktail parties
