I am an unrepentant Grinch at this time of year. And I have an unreasonably deep aversion to the drummer boy carol. But somehow, when Bowie sings it, even my small green heart soars a little. Thanks for posting.
It’s still astonishing these two got together in a TV studio, in the middle of summer, and produced this.
But they were both, in their own way, highly creative and, crucially, innovative artists, so perhaps we shouldn’t be so surprised by this, ultimately, brilliant collaboration.
Baubles, Bowie and Bing…it’s just not Christmas without them!
I've known a lot of musicians in my life, and the kind of music they play was always secondary to their musicianship. You just want to jam with people at your level. I feel like that's what happened here, and, realistically, it was probably the last time that ever happened for Bing at this level.
Very special. Thank you for reminding me of the existence of this unique recording.
You're welcome. It's a wonderful song (and story)!
Amazingly, the these two legends were actually in the same room!

It's okay to be a Grinch. The festive season isn't for everyone. But David Bowie is. David Bowie always is. Heh.

I think it was the last thing he ever did…full stop!
Other than play golf!
