I think that Oscar nomination was more than warranted myself. I think there’s a bias against action screenwriting, but that doesn’t mean what happens on the page is any less of a narrative achievement than a hard-hitting drama. AVENGERS: ENDGAME is one of the best screenplays ever written, in terms of its technical achievement. Few screenwriters could’ve done that, as in “few” who have ever lived. It took a monumental effort to pull it off, and it likely never will be again. But I expect I see craft like this differently because I know what goes into development. Musicians can likely hear effort in songs I never could, for example.
