I'm genuinely surprised more people don't talk about the music as a narrative device here rather than just a soundtrack. There was a lot of criticism of the latest film for its music being so on the nose, but that's also the nineties, I think. It's also being a teenager when your emotions are so literal and obvious.
I always appreciated the soundtracks to those films, but this certainly made me appreciate them more!
