I have always been a fan of the Terminator series even if the movies after T2 weren’t as good. Recently listened to Edward Furlong talking about the struggles he’s been through since. Which is quite sad.
Although I can’t say that I have been that big a fan of the Alien series.
I'm never aiming to convert people to my way of thinking, but I do aim to have them think about art -- or a piece of art they already have feelings about -- in a different way.
What Cameron does so well with T2 is he builds so effectively on his own creation. That’s the rare thing. Lucas didn’t do it, neither did Donner, or The Wachowskis.
It takes a tremendous amount of imagination to do that.
I'm going to avoid debating the other directors today, but with Cameron, I completely agree. Whether it's ALIENS or T2 or AVATAR 2, there is a very real sense that the game completely changed, that something new and different is happening, that you're getting glimpses into a wider world you previously didn't know existed. More, he delivers it in ways entirely different from their predecessors (though maybe less so with AVATAR 2).

This was such a helpful read. I'm still not sure I agree it's superior to ALIENS, but you've given me so much to think about.
