Thank you Cole for spotlighting women’s voices and accomplishments. I’ve seen most of these films. I had no idea Ephron wrote SILKWOOD. I saw that when I was very young.
A quick survey of anything I post here should reveal I broadly believe art is about far more than my white cishet male experience of this world, but in the case of screenwriters, I can’t pretend that having screenwriters for a wife and sister-in-law makes this subject even more important to me. That said, I do my best to make sure my screenwriting lists are as diverse as they can be given how monolithically white and male Hollywood has been for most of its history.
That’s one of the reasons I’m a paid subscriber. That and your heart-forward posts—the one about Anne Frank was extraordinary. And you remind me how important listening, watching and writing stories is to connect with ourselves and each other and to crack open our hearts. And I miss all of my art focused conversations with filmmakers, photogs, writers, and appreciators. So thank you 🙏🏼
I really do appreciate this note -- and your support. Broad feedback is always great, but I often can't tell if readers notice how much effort I put into making sure they feel represented or at least acknowledged by what I do here. I can't be perfect and it's nearly impossible to be when considering a global audience, but I really do want this to be an art experience for as many different kinds of people as possible. Thanks again!
Nora=GOAT 👍🏻
