Thanks for sharing this list Cole! Of those available on the site Blackmail, Rebecca, and Shadow of a Doubt are my favorites. Blackmail is interesting because it began as a silent film but then "talkies" were taking over. Most of it (but not all!) was reshot as a sound film. Rebecca is his only film to win the Best Picture Oscar. Hitchcock said that Shadow of a Doubt was his personal favorite.

We recently invested in ad-free Premium YouTube, mainly because we realised we're actually watching it as much, if not more, than the streaming services we're subscribed to. Suddenly, all the old movies and episodes of classic TV on YouTube have become very appealing. Thanks for the tip about Hitch!

YouTube is the cinephile and pop culture nut's friend. I wish more people knew what they were missing out on there.

Every movie starts through a window. Was he a voyeur?

Rear Window those scenes and camera work tell the story.

He frightened the theater with Psycho’s Norman Bates suddenly speaking like a woman. A true master of cinema.

What a great resource! There are still so many I haven't seen. I'm curious about everyone's favorite Hitchcock film. Mine is Rope. It's deserving of an entire dissertation on queer coded characters in film. My wife and I just went to a drive-in to see Rear Window a few weeks ago. It's another favorite of mine for sure.

My weekly question is about favorite Hitchcock films, so I expect you'll get a lot of discussion about the subject then! But REAR WINDOW on a drive-in big screen? Sounds amazing!

Yay. I look forward to the discussion. The comments have already been great. And yes, any Hitchcock film on a drive in screen is worth the effort!

I loved your Hitchcock piece! The curated list of films is a fantastic resource for anyone keen to delve into the Master of Suspense’s work. Your reflections added a lovely touch. Thank you for letting us know where we can watch these.

The two "Spellbound" films have now been blocked, at least in the US.

Hi Eddie, it's not actually blocked. Just playback on other sites such as Substack, so you have to click on the link to take you directly to YouTube. But you did manage to point out that I had repeated SPELLBOUND in a spectacular feat of clunky editing. Thanks for that catch!

All I see is “This video contains content from Disney, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds”

It is on the Internet Archive, though.

Got it. I live in Australia, so I can only go by what I have access to here. Most of my subscribers are outside America, so hopefully they'll be able to enjoy it. Thanks for the feedback.

What is your favorite Hitchcock film, Cole? I don't think I'd be able to choose just one. Rope, Shadow of a Doubt, Rebecca--Rear Window--too many excellent films to choose from.

This week's Weekly Question is about this very question, so I'm going to hold off until then to discuss that!

I have several. They kept improving them, but after a while I decided I was happy with what I had.
