Monthly Arts Seminar ✒️ | Jul. 2025
Introducing an opportunity for screenwriters, authors, and art lovers to discuss the arts, craft and business, and the challenges they’re facing on their creative journeys
For the past two years, I’ve invited my paid supporters of 5AM StoryTalk to join me for monthly “ask me anything about the arts” chats as part of their subscriptions. But I’m not satisfied with the experience, as I think these two-hour blocks tend to make it nearly impossible for my supporters – who are scattered around the globe – to regularly participate.
Starting today, I’m launching the 5AM StoryTalk Arts Seminar in its place — a feature I’m confident will be superior in every way and offer my paid supporters an invaluable resource.
Here’s how it will work:
On the first Saturday of every month, I will publish an article with the title “5AM StoryTalk Arts Seminar” that will invite paid supporters of 5AM StoryTalk to ask questions of me and the wider community of Storytalkers about the arts.
Meaning: you can ask questions about craft, about the business (from breaking in to agents, etc.), or just what everyone thinks about a hot new TV series, film, book, and so on.
This article will be denoted by this symbol — ☕ — and stay active for the duration of the month at which time its comments will be locked.
Each article will be pinned to my main page for the month so paid supporters can easily locate it whenever they have a question they would like to ask me or StoryTalk’s extraordinarily thoughtful community (seriously, you guys are the best!).
I’ll also be adding a tab at the top of my main page so you can hunt down these “workshop” articles because, even though you might not be able to comment on them anymore, you might still want to read previous questions and community answers.
Here’s why I think you’ll want to participate:
Aside from the fact that I’m going to be making myself more regularly available to help you discuss whatever you’re struggling with as an artist – answering you with my 20 years of experience as a professional screenwriter, novelist, and comic book writer – this space will no doubt quickly evolve into a kind of fun and, judging by my Weekly Question series, exciting way for artists and art lovers to more intimately discuss what it takes to create something meaningful and successful in 2025.
And so without any further ado, I invite paid supporters of 5AM StoryTalk to jump into the comments below and get the conversation going. You’re in charge here. What do you want to talk about?!
If you’re not yet a paid subscriber, upgrade now! You’ll get exclusive access to this monthly feature as well as more than 100 paywalled arts features, 5AM StoryTalk Podcast episodes days and sometimes weeks early, and all 5AM StoryTalk Podcast bonus episodes three months before they become available for free. Don’t forget, you can gift these to others, too.
